long time friend of the label, neue grafik, steps forth with his most fully realised offering to date. this record has been a long time coming, born out of a encounter in paris back in 2016. this meeting of minds led to a blossoming friendship between fred ( neue grafik) and bradley ( rs intl) which has taken them across 3 continents, countless dance-floors and finally crystallised onto this 12-. the record itself takes cues from the broken-beat sound of london while paying homage to the parisian house dance scene. largely sample based, but also employing much more live instrumentation than ever before, neue grafik s music is informed by movement and in turn offers so much for dancers to respond to.

this new album comprises 6 tracks of edm: emotional dance music. they were made and recorded during the hot summers of 2016 and 2017. everything you need then is freshness and coolness and this is exactly what they are giving. they combine the overall positivity of the summer and the melancholy caused by the insistence of the heat, of the light, of the endless nights. they were played directly from the machine to a 1/4’’ tape, which explains their very natural and direct development. 303-like bass, gnarly hi-hats, heavy kicks and digital licks are still to be expected here.

following on from his debut ep on drumcode earlier this year, ilario alicante returns. for the past few years ilario alicante has enjoyed something of an unintentional ibiza kinship with adam beyer. when the swede played his special annual sets on the amnesia terrace for cocoon, for three years out of four, the italian has been right there playing alongside him, ensuring his talents were on the radar of the drumcode chief. ilario made his first appearance on the label in 2016 with the stirring temporary featuring on a-sides vol.4, before securing his first full-length release with the awakened ep that dropped earlier this year. figures & echoes deepens his contribution to the label with half a dozen powerful cuts. figure of ra opens the ep, combining a rousing vocal loop, pulsating beats and effective melodic interlude to fantastic effect. the acid runner follows and is true to its name, characterised by echoing vocal effects that lead to a piercing 303-line that hits with peak-time power. virgos echoes features a persistent synth line that combining effectively with lush layers of melody to create an atmospheric impact. third eye delivers an exhilarating dose of rave thanks to the hypnotizing riff that runs throughout.

perez is one of the new faces in the french scene and has been so since 2013 when he released a first ep (perez, dirty/kompakt) and played concerts which caught the attention of the press. perez claims to have a taste for singular electronic pop and the music he produces certainly is. his records collection has albums by christophe and bashung standing next to pulp and suicide ones, among productions by the dfa and kompakt labels. for his second album cavernes (to be released in february 2018 on his own record label etoile distante), perez has collaborated with berlin producer and friend strip steve (boys noize, clone royal oak, waxtefacts). on this one he delivers a particular sound combining a story-telling singing sometimes verging on the fantastic with electronic club music. but perez does not only write songs. after being artist-in-residency at the palais de tokyo (paris), he made a sound installation in 2014 for the villa noailles in hyeres, france. he also composed for the scenographies of contemporary artists dominique gonzalez foerster, saâdane afif or ange leccia. in 2016 he was awarded by the drac and was given the opportunity to compose basing his inspiration on pieces of the collection of the regional fund of contemporary art.

frits wentinks label bobby donny welcomes back young us producer tlim shug for a second ep after his last effort back in 2016. his house sound has developed nicely but remains resolutely deep and atmospheric. it s the sound of a slow train on a warm summer s day, passing through the countryside and encourage you to daydream. warm, fuzzy pads drift by as muted rhodes keys bring a jazz touch. occasional clever vocal sounds ensure a certain intimacy and romanticism to the deep house grooves. its a lo-fi and imperfect beatdown record with well-sampled drums adding a touch of soul.

cute heels is the project of victor lenis, a contemporary electronic artist living in berlin, germany. he grew up in bogotá, columbia during the 1990s, surrounded by the radial punk scene. over the years, victor’s passion and fascination for synthesizers and drum machines to produce and compose resulted in his debut album “spiritual” for dark entries in 2014 as well as the “third skin” ep in 2016. inspired by equal parts liaisons dangereuses, drexciya and black devil disco club, cute heels connects the dots between detroit techno, early chicago house and belgium electronic body music. “state of mind” is a 4-track ep featuring the vocal talents of berlin artist aga wilk aka romance disaster on the the title track.

the first full artist ep of 2018 is one by a new artist for heist, but a familiar name for any modern day house aficionado: adryiano. after taking 2016 off, he came back guns blazing in 2017, releasing 5 solo eps in 1 year on labels like shall not fade and baka gaijin. his me and you and her ep for heist showcases his contemporary view on classic house and acid, and is an experiment into how much distortion a track can actually handle when youve got a killer sample hook. me and you and her is about as classic as a house track can be and moves in similar fashion as his post-2013 hit ‘on my side. its got a sweet and repetitive vocal loop, some semi-grainy but definitely groovy percussion and a deceptively simple piano hook. add some filtering and youve got a lovely warm house song that can go on forever. the a2 move it, move it moves straight into old-school chicago territory, with a raw af acid bassline. chicago bred jamie 3:26, now residing in its dutch counterpart rotterdam, gives the track a nice old school twist. hes going full 707 on the percussion and has casually added an amazing synth hook to give the remix a true vibe of its own. the ep closes off with fashion country girl: adryianos dystopian view of a world where dolly parton gets mangled through an overdrive, then gets distorted, crushed, mangled, deleted, re-added in 8 bit and then crushed some more. the result is an uptempo roller with more than enough grit, and just enough tongue-in-cheek to make everyone smile a little bit more. yours sincerely, maarten & lars.

phase steps up for his first solo metalheadz release after previously appearing on the label alongside villem for ‘the traveller ep in 2016. the young belgian shows off his skills across 4 tracks (one of them a collaboration with zero t) on the ‘stakes ep, displaying a mature and accomplished sound that not only fits in but also stands out in the metalheadz catalogue.

melbournes short black label has been relatively sporadic with its releases up until now, having started back in 2013 with matt kennedys together at 2am ep and dropping the third release on the label back in 2016, rustal s privilege. hopefully this excellent new transmission from newcomer tristan kino will be the start of more productivity from the crew. the ep starts off in fine style with the nervy, reduced acid twitch of yggdrassil, while at the other end of the record niddhog presents a tougher, darker throwdown crafted for seedy techno dancefloors. johannes volk has been snapped up for remix duties, and does a sterling service with the metallic clang of his version of niddhog.

intraverso is fabrizio’s debut album, set for release on his label. the record is a very personal journey, according to the artist himself. you here find him examining different territory than where he usually heads within his productions. the album, which consists of nine songs in total, was composed between april 2016 and february 2017 in his studio in rome. written in a state of -introspect-, we here see an artist in motion. changing. evolving. the perfect moment to explore something new and unveil a different side of yourself to the world.

german producer silent-one presents an ambient four track release on his own label intimate silence this february. part of the from another mind crew longside obscure shape & shdw and javier ba&#776,,hr, silent-one (real name benedikt merkl) launched intimate silence as a platform for ambient music in 2016. since then the label has hosted artists like ressort imprint regular g&#322,,o&#769,,s, taapion records co-founder pvnv and arsenik records’ dold, however this release sees the label founder make his very own debut. fuzzy atmospherics and chilling chord sequences set the tone for the ominous ‘human border’ before ghostly synths and twinkling melodies work together to form ‘decide your fate’. on the flip, mesmerising arpeggios meander within an echoing setting in ‘sign of anxiety’ until the murky ‘lost souls’ pairs dusky elements with a spoken word sample to create a sci-fi aesthetic to conclude the release.

new york’s p.leone debuts on rekids special projects with four vinyl-only techno cuts this february. debuting on spencer parker’s work them records in 2016, p.leone has since launched his own imprint entitled e-missions alongside label partner caiazzo. moving to berlin last year, the american producer has quickly earned himself a name within the german capital, making regular appearances at the likes of tresor and ://about blank, and now joining respected berlin-based label rekids as part of their vinyl-only series. metallic echoes, robust kicks and breakbeat percussion lay the foundation for ‘rose petal breaks’, before ‘noon service’ demonstrates crystalline synths and futuristic effects. on the flip, thudding drums and energetic claps form ‘hold me down’ until the ominous ‘sometimes i feel strong’ concludes the package with rattling components and a cacophony of intricacies.

seth troxler’s play it say it label opens up 2018 with another release from the highly regarded ataxia, who serve up their third ep for the imprint. the detroit duo impressed with their previous outings on the label, the supertouch ep back in july 2017 and the acid ep in 2016. since then they have also released on leftroom and nervous and continued their eight year residency at prominent detroit venue tv lounge. their fresh take on motor city techno often comes with flashes of acid and makes cyber punks ted krisko and eric ricker one of the most interesting pairs in the game. opening up the essential ep is ‘quicksand’, an immediately arresting and busy electro track with real machine soul. the bassline bubbles and boils underneath crisp percussion and emotive keys bring a sense of tenderness. it’s a macho cut with robust drums and is sure to win over any crowd. the fresh ‘hot snakes’ is a deep, menacing track with dark bass gurgling beneath the airy hi hats. frazzled synths are dystopian and brain frying, and together the whole thing takes you into hypnotic territory with an intense sense of urgency that is impossible to ignore. last of all is the freakiest of the lot. the brilliant ‘texas is the reason’ has circling bass that is warped and intriguing and will own any club, while the drums drive on and trippy keys are skewed and twisted up top. it’s a truly intense record for late in the night that is sure to become a big tune. this is an expressive and varied ep full of contemporary and innovative detroit house and techno sounds and marks another step in the ataxia story.

from the knowledge gained on our expeditions, we are able to track down the jets fired during each unique eruption and share them with the people of this majestic orb.
the first squirt led us to the yard in hackney, where ross from friends performed live for one of the first few times in his already sparkling career.
>from the performance came a track called ‘champagne’, a wave of sax washing over you accompanied by plinking guitar and of course those fuzzy hi hats that go right to your head.
this track could previously only be experienced by seeing the trio play live or by watching our documentation of the performance, until now.

rrose and lucy need little introduction as heads of eaux and stroboscopic artefacts (respectively), their influence on the direction of techno in the last five years is undeniable. rather than crafting a style to be imitated, they pursue an approach that welcomes unpredictable results, with the intention of stimulating uncharted areas of the mind through sound and rhythm. the first lotus eaters collaboration appeared on stroboscopic artefacts in 2016. for their follow up on eaux, the pair go deeper into lucy s analog modular forest, searching for those essential elements that will yield alchemical results. inner membrane undulates with ring modulated tones that stretch like liquid metal, patiently building up dancefloor energy with only the barest of percussive elements. on the b side, inverted limb takes a similarly minimal approach, utilizing two tones, a bass drum, and hi-hats to maximum effect. the ep closes with seeds of discontent a swirl of feedback and noise that is both soothing and unsettling, leaving us wondering what will come next

following a succesfull 2016 with his well received eps golden tides,sunlit forest and one of our fave releases bahia, joe offers up four cuts for pleasure unit. continuing the producers passion for new age , paradasical ambience and dreamy deep house,lead title -jacaranda skies- might be what telephones and met mr heard would of sounded like had they met in rimini circa 91. a dusky atmosphere provides the backdrop to ecstacy inducing chords,an elevated brass sequence and afro percussion driving a tight groove. mangrove dawn is an aural quaalude hit, gentle synth washes fold over each other,while nature sounds buzz through a distant 303. the lost garden opens to a reverb soaked slide guitar and soaring pad section before a jaguar snarl gives way to subtle kick pattern atop m1 chimes and bali bells. skies reprise closes off the ep with a beatless take on the original, the melodies given more space the sonic equivalent of open air swaying under hazy pink skies.

aktion mutante (violet poison and unhuman) is a synth-punk project recalling the ‘80s minimal-wave melancholic vibes with new school ebm/ cyber-punk noise cuts. the realistic mutation of the human body into a surreal and ascetic mind setting of an apocalyptic contemporary society. a live force with analogue machines. aktion mutante’s alchemy of splintered synth-punk, bloody ebm and haunting wave injects right into the veins and spreads quickly through the body. the duo of violet poison (veleno viola) and unhuman (liber null) couldnt be more suited for each other. after meeting at liber null’s duality event in 2015, the two artists clicked immediately and were able to record some material in italy during the winter of 2016. the result is this suburb 12inch which is composed of six tracks and was mixed by aconito records, london and mastered by andrea merlini, utrecht.

yaleesa hall is back on his home label will & ink with two eps in quick succession. after releasing his debut album in 2016 this is the first solo output from the amsterdam based producer on the label. this first ep is entitled zoe hayley laura and features a trio of tracks that melt electro, techno and broken beats in arresting ways. opening up the ep is zoe price, a silky electro track with shooting synths and big downward bass strikes that add real depth. it s a urgent and arresting affair to wake up the floor. hayley roach then has much more forceful drums that come in one two punch combinations to the gut. synths writhe and gurgle up top as pads rise up and down the scale and the whole thing is brilliantly large. laura pomeroy then rocks back and forth on its heels, with train track like percussion and malfunctioning machine stabs. it s a real tussle between different elements and locks you right in as a result. once again then, the irrepressible yaleesa hall leads from the front.

multi-platinum artist awolnation announced the release of their third studio album, here come the runts, on february 2, 2018. bruno spent 2016 crafting the album in his home studio nestled in the coastal mountain range separating the pacific ocean and the suburbs of los angeles where he grew up. the secluded location is reflected throughout the album. “the record definitely has a feel to it that seems parallel to the vibe of this mountain and the land,” bruno notes. “it’s like a non-gmo record. there’s no fake shit on there, none of the vocals are tuned. it’s all real playing.”

slam and obscure shape & shdw step up for the second wave of radio slave ‘grindhouse’ remixes on rekids this february. one of techno’s most iconic records, ‘grindhouse’ first appeared on radio slave’s ‘no sleep’ series before spawning multiple remixes from dubfire, danton eeprom, terence fixmer and nic fanciulli. kick-started by len faki, last year saw the announcement of a series of remixes with more to come from vatican shadow, markus suckut, lady starlight and special request. complete with relentless kicks, sinister drones and industrial elements, part two is not for the faint-hearted. starting with slam, the soma bosses keep things dark, with rattling top lines and echoing effects resulting in a truly decadent techno floor destroyer. following a remix of radio slave’s ‘vision’ in 2016, obscure shape & shdw’s abilities are held in high regard by the rekids owner and their rework of ‘grindhouse’ reinforces why. complete with a rumbling lowend, metallic melodies and soaring synths, the from another mind founders continue to establish themselves as two of techno’s most exciting names.

villa Åbo in the alternative solo project of swedish musician and producer jan svensson, who has been making electronic music for the better part of 30 years as the artist behind such aliases as frak, studio ss and alvars orkestra. svensson also runs legendary swedish dance and experimental music label börft, the product of a mutual appreciation for severed heads and terse tapes. as villa Åbo he released two records in 1997 on börft and remained inactive for 17 years until the dutch label bio rhythm coaxed him into revisiting the project and released a double 12&#8243,, in 2014. jan has since followed with a steady stream of 12” singles for kontra-musik, noise in my head and radio lundberg.
“magnetic moves” is villa Åbo’s debut album, originally released in an limited edition of 65 hand-numbered cassettes by funeral fog in 2016.
clocking in at over 46 minutes, this first-ever vinyl edition spreads the 8 ragged techno tracks across four sides for maximum loudness. some songs are aggressively potent, with cyclical synth riffs and razor-sharp acid lines riding a heavy, funk-fuelled techno groove. others tracks are more fluid, vintage underground resistance or derrick may with killer drum machine workouts that come in handy as dj tools. all songs have been remastered by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the record is housed in a custom made jacket designed by eloise leigh, featuring a photograph of jan’s mother’s house, the meaning behind “villa Åbo”. each copy includes a double-sided postcard with notes.

in 2016 simon pitt and alex kassian formed planet sundae recordings. opal sunn ii is their third release. part i was out july 2017 with andrew weatherall taking a massive shine to it, playing all 4 tracks at a gig in barcelona. it was championed also by massimiliano pagliara, of ostgut fame. opal sunn is live-performance duo al kassian & hiroaki oba. formed in 2015, the pair have recorded countless hardware-driven improvisational sessions, puzzled together to create abstract musical journeys. the aim is to transcend the improvisational magic of the studio jam and funnel it into the live performance. having played at rainbow disco club 2016 in japan & atlas electronic 2016 in morocco,the pair took both excited audiences by surprise with their heavily improvised live sessions. opal sun ii explores darker shades of dance music.

following on from the 2017 lp paradygm shift by robert hood released on dekmantel records, the detroit legend returns to the imprint to deliver the final installment in a trilogy of ep releases that initially began back in february 2016. now based in alabama, the detroit-techno producer is returning to his roots. embracing the trademark, minimal, funk techno sounds that defined his earlier career, paradygm shift vol. 3 is classic hood, operating in new, and uncharted ways.

behind the sstrom moniker hides one half of shxcxchcxsh and a long-time activist of sweden s experimental techno scene. having fallen in love with simple melodies and catchy arpeggios when being a member of bitpop/synth band slagsmalsklubben, he transferred these sensibilities further into his other projects. sstrom s excellent 2016 debut for semantica records was an excellent exercise in lush aquatic techno with breezy and lush atmospheres. the new ep -vitriol- is informed by the personal experience of the producer, which adds additional warmth and emotional weight to the record. the release brings back memories of earth pigments his father used when painting things in their house, the colours created were usually dark toned with some pastel lightness. this juxtaposition is felt throughout the record, which balances between cinematic futurist moods, steel-wool smoothness and subtle physicality due to its textured nature. the title track kicks-off with detroitish synth loops wrapped in dense lo-fi soundscapes, while -sienna- increases the tension by introducing more expansive melodic appeal intertwined with intensity of feather-like 4/4 rhythmics. -umbra- brings some shadowy sonic undertones immersed into a sea of crackle with melodies constantly resurfacing. the closing -ockra- bursts with more groovy patterns, yet retaining the same elegant warmth, which seems to be the signature element of this ep. while listening to all these tracks you feel like touching some alien surfaces with utmost sensitiveness with surreal landscapes stretching out in your imagination. this is carefully crafted introvert music, yet having some elegant dancefloor appeal.

following on from the critically acclaimed penya investigations cassettes and the 12inch acelere ep, afro-latin-electronic collective penya conclude an intensely creative period with a long player collection of tracks super liminal. liminal an in-between state references the transitional process the four piece band entered during a series of self-produced recording sessions held at penyas multi-instrumentalist magnus pis home studio between march 2016 and may 2017. penyas percussive and futuristic afro-latin sound also owes its genesis to the concept of liminality: the threshold of disorientation occurring during ritual practices. penya s hypnotic groovescapes, led by jim lem s bata drumming,ancient chants, sung by lilli elina, dubbed-out improvisations on trombone by viva msimangand lo-fi electronic production by magnus p.i create a sound that has garnered significant support on bbc 6 music via tom ravenscroft, worldwide fm via gilles peterson, on bbc radio 3s late junction, as well as being praised by a host of producers including dj khalab, will lv, dj jose marquez and dengue dengue dengue. penya s energised and engaging live show has also toured across uk festivals this summer, including brainchild, wilderness, farmfest and big love.

‘rekanan 1 / rekanan 2’ is the debut vinyl release of indonesian music producer rmp. the a side was originally released as ‘rekanan 1’ back in july 2016 as a digital-only version to launch divisi62 - a jakarta based sound and visual arts label initiated by a group of musicians and designers.
this vinyl version has ‘rekanan 2’ on the b side - a continued development of similar ideas and themes that highlights the perpetual exchange and crossover points of asian and african heritage. both the graphics and music were conceived by using samples and fragments from a wide range of sources.

having established itself with eps from duke slammer and dmx krew, dublin’s modern magic welcomes bari’s armonics for the label’s third release. a trained pianist and resident dj/curator of the we talk event series in his home city, armonics draws influence from electronic music across the past 40 years: chicago & acid house, italo- & electro-disco, new wave, synth-pop and vaporwave.
his italowave style is a fusion of these retro-futuristic and cosmic styles, forged through armonic’s production processes which include cassette recordings, vintage synths & modern korg/roland gear. the look alive ep is the producer’s second release, following a debut on slow motion in late 2016.
